What is eye cancer?
The tissues around the eyes, the eyelids, the structures within the eye, called the iris, the colored section of the eye, known as the network layer, located under the retina and the retina, called the choroid of the eyeball, which constitute a large portion of connective tissue that occur in the structure of cancer is called malignant tumors of the eye. Ninety percent of the tumor tissues that occur in the eye develop benign, and it should be known that these tissues do not cause eye cancer. Types of eye diseases are diseases that progress insidiously and go unnoticed for a long time if regular eye examinations are not performed. Therefore, in order for eye cancer and other types of eye diseases to be treated effectively, it is necessary to have detailed information about the symptoms, to control the disease process with early diagnosis.
What are the symptoms of eye cancer?
The tumor tissue that occurs in the eye shows various symptoms depending on where it is located. These symptoms may vary depending on the location of the tumor tissue, as well as the size of the tissue and whether it shows cancer characteristics.
There is a redness problem in the white part of the eye called the sclera,
Swelling and tenderness develop on the eyelids,
A complaint of inflammation around the eye and itching associated with it may be observed,
Depending on the location of the tumor, the round image of the pupil may deteriorate,
Tumors that occur in the iris layer, which is the colored part of the eye, sometimes cause brown or light-colored masses,
If the tumor has appeared in the posterior part of the eye, it can progress without causing any complaints and without symptoms. This condition is noticed only during routine examinations.
How is eye cancer diagnosed?
Regular eye examinations are extremely important in order for the diagnosis of eye cancer to be made on time and for the most effective treatment initiatives to be implemented. During routine examinations, important controls such as eyelids, inner and outer parts of the eyelids, eye pressure measurement and eye bottom examination should be provided; especially in children, these examinations should be performed without interruption. If the results obtained after a detailed physical examination of the eye indicate the presence of a tumor, various examination methods are applied.
The presence of a mass is checked by ultrasonography.
With color fundus photography, the size, color and location of the favorite audience are determined and their dimensions are followed.
With CT and MRI imaging methods, the spread and cross-sections of tumor cells can be observed.
With the biopsy application, it is determined whether the tumor is benign or malignant, in which cells and tissues it occurs, and the treatment methods that can be applied.
A treatment plan is determined according to the place of formation of the tumor, its type, stage, spread, age and health status of the patient. Surgical removal of the tumor, radiation therapy, chemotherapy, laser treatments can be performed separately or together.
The spread of tumors to a different place in the body than the place of formation is called metastasis. The most common cancers that can metastasize in the eye are breast and lung cancers.
