Trigeminal neuralgia is a disease in which the trigeminal nerve, which carries the sensation of the face, is affected. It is followed by sudden, severe attacks of pain in one half of the face that resemble an electric shock or burning. Although the duration of pain attacks varies from a few seconds to a few minutes, the frequency of these attacks also varies from patient to patient. The fact that trigeminal neuralgia causes very severe pain and is followed by random attacks makes this disease a major discomfort that affects the quality of life.
