CATARACT

Cataract disease occurs as a result of matting of the natural lens that provides vision at the back of the pupil by losing its transparency. The eye provides clear vision thanks to the fragility and transparency of its structures, the cornea and the lens. In other words, a decrease in transparency in the lens, the formation of cuts is called cataract. Cataracts are one of the most treatable causes of blindness.

HOW IS CATARACT TREATMENT? HOW IS CATARACT SURGERY PERFORMED?

Cataract is a disease that is treated with surgery. In the operations performed, ‘intracapsular cataract extraction‘ or frequently performed ’extracapsular cataract extraction’ techniques are used. In extracapsular extraction, planned extracapsular surgery (stitched eyepiece placement surgery) and phacoemulsification (laser cataract surgery, Decontaminated among the public) methods are applied. In patients who are late in surgical intervention, mature cataracts of white color can be seen in the pupil area. With surgical intervention, options are offered such as treating the patient’s distant both distant and close or distant, close and medium close distance. The operation is performed using one of the appropriate intraocular lenses according to the patient’s choice and general health condition. In high astigmatism, special lenses are placed in the eye.

There have been important innovations in cataract surgery in recent years. With the use of premium intraocular lenses, patients can live their lives after cataract surgery more comfortably than before and can see far and near comfortably without using glasses thanks to multifocal intraocular lenses. The most commonly used method in cataract surgery is the PHACO method, popularly known as laser surgery. Dec. With this operation, the hardened layer is broken and cleaned and the intraocular lens is placed in its place. The operation is performed through an incision smaller than 2 mm. Making the method seamless, painless and with drip anesthesia provides great advantages to the patient. If the patient is not very excited, all cataract surgeries are performed without needles with drip anesthesia. This process takes 20-30 minutes. After cataract surgery, the patient can return to normal life within 2-3 days.

In people with cataracts, there are “multifocal, trifocal” intraocular smart lens options that are placed in the eye during surgery, providing clear vision both far and near. After the operation, the need for glasses disappears thanks to these lenses. In addition, without cataract, in case of excessive refractive errors, just like in the case of cataracts, the intraocular lens, which is transparent this time, can be surgically removed in the same way and the appropriate smart intraocular lens is placed. Thus, a better quality vision can be obtained without glasses at any distance.
