Gastric Balloon Application
Gastric balloon is not a procedure that relieves morbid obesity or an alternative to bariatric surgery. Gastric balloon is not a method of stomach reduction surgery, that is, surgery is not performed in this application.
The gastric balloon method is used only for overweight super obese people who are preparing for morbid obesity surgery, for weight loss purposes before surgery. In addition, it can be applied as an auxiliary method in patients who are slightly overweight and are not accepted for surgery, albeit very rarely.
In this method, a fist-sized balloon filled with water is placed inside the patient’s stomach through endoscopy and thus food intake is restricted.
Does the Gastric Balloon Work?
With the gastric balloon method, patients can lose weight to a limited extent and the balloon must be removed after no more than 1 year. In addition, for reasons such as abdominal tension, pain, vomiting, a significant number of patients want the balloon to be removed prematurely.
