Lymphoma
Lymphocytes are white blood cells in the immune system. They fight infections so that we can stay healthy. If these cells grow and multiply uncontrollably, they can form a type of cancer called lymphoma.
Lymphomas are 3rd among childhood cancers after leukemia and brain tumors in developed countries. Dec. often, in developing countries, while 2. it is often found as the most common childhood cancer in African countries. 40% of cases are monitored as Hodgkin’s Lymphoma (HL) and 60% of cases are Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma (NHL).
The most effective treatment begins with the correct diagnosis. And the earlier the treatment is started, the greater the chance of your child beating cancer. It is performed by using modern methods such as chest X-ray or CT scan of the pelvis, MRI and PET scan, lumbar puncture to determine the location and extent of cancer in the organs.
Chemotherapy in Children with Lymphoma, Treatment of Non-Hodgkin Lymphomas Treatment of non-Hodgkin lymphomas depends on the stage and type of NHL. In general, NHL is treated with systemic multi-agent chemotherapy, as well as treatment of the central nervous system (CNS). Chemotherapy drugs may include vincristine, doxorubicin, cyclophosphamide, prednisone, mercaptopurine, methotrexate and L-asparaginase. Radiation can also be included. Stem cell transplantation is sometimes indicated following high-dose chemotherapy.
