RADIOTHERAPY AND PHYSIOTHERAPY

Radiation is a special type of energy carried by waves or particles. It can be released by substances that can be produced by special devices or called radioactive Tues. This energy is used for imaging purposes in medicine. We can give lung films as an example of this. Technologically advanced special devices are needed to be able to direct radiation to the diseased organ. The use of high doses of radiation energy for the purpose of treatment is called “radiotherapy” or “radiation therapy”.

WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS AND GOALS OF RADIOTHERAPY?

Radiation therapy is used for many types of cancer in almost every part of the body.

Radiation therapy is also performed in most cancer patients. In some types of cancer, radiation therapy may be the only solution. More results can be obtained by applying radiation therapy together with chemotherapy.

Radiation therapy is sometimes given to shrink the tumor before surgery. In some tumors, it is applied to clean up cancer cells that may have remained after surgery. There are also methods in which radiation therapy is applied during surgery. There may also be types of cancer in which radiation therapy and chemotherapy are applied directly without surgery.

In some cases where it is not possible to fully cure the disease, radiation therapy may also be applied to reduce the patient’s complaints such as pain, bleeding. This type of treatment is called “palliative therapy”.
